International Banking And Finance

I have 2 degrees in International Finance and Accounting from a Top school in the West. I am 28 years old and I have 3 years of work experience as an Accountant, I have taken the CPA exam but I am not licensed because i need a MBA. I am thinking of getting my MBA in 2 years and I want to venture into Investment Banking. Can anyone tell me if this is going to be a good career change? Is there a future in Investment banking with all our current economic woes?

Depends where you want to work. Though Investment bankers are getting flack for the mess they have created, you can be sure they will come up with something new to make money.

People will always need money, so you can be sure investment banking is going to be around for a long time to come.

They get paid well too, you can always diversify into Fund Management or other areas of finance, if you see the situation is not that good in 2 years time.

i’ve done basic management accounting, and the specialization majors were – Security analysis and portfolio management, merchant banking basics, and international finance.

Even though you have concentrated in Finance for your MBA, you should first figure out what branch in finance you would want to work in. For example, management accounting courses are completely different from M&A or investment analysis. Try to understand the specific career you would want to take and then take the appropriate finance subjects.

If you want the management accounting track, you should also take the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certification. If you want investments and capital markets, take the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exams.

Hello, I am invited to a second round of job interview at a huge international bank. First interview was with HRs, group assesment, and they called me 3 hours later to say i did very well and they invite me back to speak with manager and team supervisor. Please tell me what to expect? This is a huge bank, however they dont require financial studies. all they want is: perfect english, at least bachelor’s degree (i hold master in political science) and soft skills such as interpersonal+teamwork+ accuracy+stress resistance etc.

Anybody help?
N.B This is happening in European country.

ya definitely english and also perfect english is always demanded by every institution where u r seeking job.but if u r not perfect in english speaking then u r just upon the mercy of the interviewers

I just read if a US bank owes $20million Canadian dollars in 90 days, and it would like to hedge, then it would buy a $20 million Canadian dollar 90 day future contract.

What if the bank were to receive the $20million Canadian dollars and would like to hedge? Would it sell a $20 million Canadian dollar future contract?

If a US bank was expected to receive 20 million Canadian dollars in 90 days they would sell a futures contract for the Canadian currency for a set price of USD. And on the maturity date give up the Canadian currency and receive USD

Farmers dont use the futures markets much. In my experience if you mention the futures market to a farmer you get an earful. They hate the idea of someone in Kansas City or New York controlling the price of their product. Grain processors like Cargill and the companies that buy grain from them are the main users of the futures markets.
